So, before I start this review, let me tell you – these Danner boots are awesome! If you don’t want to read through the whole article, here is a summary: Excellent boots, super light, very flexible, great for hot climate, not for cold climate, perfect for sandy surfaces, true to size… Buy them!
But, if you are not in a rush and want to learn more, let’s begin. I got these Danner Tachyon boots as a part of my Ultimate Survival Boots section. That mean that this review will not just be about the Danner boots in general, but also their application for tactical and survival situations… In other words, this review will be pretty demanding. Let’s begin.

Danner Tachyon are definitely some of the most comfortable boots that I have had so far, probably due to their super lightweight design and flexible bottom sole. The test that I perform on my Ultimate Survival Boots “candidates” is a 5 mile walk and a 3 mile run, with a total wear time of about 6-7 hours. Danner boots were extremely easy to run in! Definitely very comfortable to walk and overall, wear them for extended periods of time. So, whenever it comes to the comfort levels, 10 out of 10!
Also, wanted to mention here that Danner Tachyon are true to the size. I wear 9.5 for sneakers and shoes, and get my boots in 10 and they very perfect size with a little extra space for the toe (recommended for boots).
Built and Material Quality
The quality of the built and the material feels great on these Danner boots. Now, I only had this pair for a bout two months, so I cannot say much about the longevity, but check out the Amazon page https://amzn.to/2RdT8iG for Danner Tachyon and you will find more than 400 positive reviews.
These boots are very popular amount law-enforcement officers and military, and I definitely trust their reviews!
Are these boots waterproof?
Now, because this is an Ultimate Survival Boot review, we have to consider the waterproofing. While Danner Tachyon are not waterproof, I have to mention that because they are so light, they will dry very quickly. Here is the thing, no matter how much waterproof the boot is, if you step into the water deep enough, the water will get into the boot. If that boot is waterproof, it will definitely take a while for it to dry up. With Danner Tachyon this is not the case. Your Danner boot will dry up very quickly! So, I think whenever it comes to waterproofing for survival situations… it is more the matter of preference!
So, the bottom sole on Danner Tachyon has a very specific purpose: to perform well on sandy surfaces, and indeed, it does! Danner Tachyon is perfect on the sand! But, because these boots have a very specific preference for the surface, they do lack on other surfaces.
Because the bottom sole is somewhat flat and not very aggressive, Danner Tachyon is pretty good on flat surfaces like tile, although you have to keep in mind that they are not slip resistant. (although in my experience, a lot of “slip resistant” boots are very slippery on slippery surfaces.
Danner boots are pretty good on rocky roads and asphalt as well, however, they start to struggle whenever things come to something more or less slippery, like the wet grass…
Of course, without even saying it, these boots are not designed for snowy or icy situations, not only because the sole is not aggressive enough, but also because there is no insulation. This point brings us to the temperature talk.
Too Hot or Too Cold?
Danner Tachyon boots are perfect for hot climate! Running in these boots felt like running in my running sneakers… No overheating and great breathability of the fabric, probably thanks to the vents as you can see on the picture. The fabric itself is very light as well which helps them to stay cool.
The testing that I’ve done was in the 95 degree Florida heat and these boots, so far, are the coolest boots that I have tested.
Of course, this means that Danner Tachyon is not for the cold climate… the fabric is too light, there is no insulation and the sole is not designed for the snowy or icy situations, so keep that in mind.
Design Features and the Looks
The upper part of the boot is completely synthetic, which gives the boot some extreme weight savings with the added benefit of an ultra-fast dry time. Speed lacing and a 3-layer comfort system (closed hooks) work together to create a snug, comfortable fit. Danner Tachyon features a true rubber bottom sole for abrasion resistance and traction.
Overall, Danner Tachyon look awesome! Here are some pictures:

Conclusion and Final Thoughts
Well, you probably already figured out that I absolutely love Danner Tachyon boots! Super light weight, very easy to run, flexible bottom sole, quick drying, easy to put on, breathable, perfect on sand and of course, at about $110, Danner is a great choice! But, you have to keep in mind, of course, the climate and the terrain. These boots are for hot weather, sandy surface.
Whenever it comes to the Ultimate Survival Boot factor, I think it depends on what your survival plan is. I feel like the Ultimate Survival Boot should be flexible in its application… But I don’t think Danner Tachyon is. Danner Tachyon boot has a specific purpose, which it excels at. But as an all terrain, all weather survival boots… I would look around some more!
