Springfield XDM 40 Review (Mod Competition Pistol)
Welcome to Firearms of America! Today we have another Springfield pistol review and this is Springfield XD40, which was prepared for the USPSA.
So, let’s talk about the original features, new features. Now, to clarify, this Springfield gun is also referred to as Springfield XD 40, where 40 stands for .40 S&W.
Here are the specs:
Caliber: .40 S&W
Barrel Length: 4.5″
Barrel Material: Hammer Forged, Steel
Barrel Finish: Melonite
Twist Rate: 1:16 Twist
Recoil System: One Piece Full-Length Guide Rod
Slide Material: Forged Steel
Slide Finish: Melonite
Frame: Black Polymer
Front Sight: Fiber Optic
Rear: Low Profile Combat (Steel)
Magazine: (2) 16 Round Stainless Steel
Grip Width: 1.18″
Weight: 30 oz
Keep in mind that the above specs are for the stock configuration of this firearm. Now on this gun, the front fiber optic sight was replaced with a standard dot sight. The trigger was upgraded to a lighter pull trigger and you probably already noticed the cutout on the slide to extra lightness.
While making this Springfield XDM 40 review I noticed that it does not feel as light compared to a lot of other polymer framed pistols. In my opinion, this extra weight contributed to the manageable recoil. Also because this is Springfield XDM 40 full size, you have the benefit of the longer barrel.
